Three ceramic chronographs for civilians inspired by timepieces created for US Navy Squadrons have just landed in the IWC Pilot collection.

For over 85 years, with the introduction of its first aviation timepiece in 1936, has been flying high with its Pilot’s watches. Today, the brand releases three new ceramic chronographs inspired by the collaborations with U.S. Navy squadrons. Marking the first time these kinds of watches are available for civilian wrists, the chronographs fly the colours and squadron patch of three U.S. Navy aviation units: “Royal Maces”, “Tophatters” and “Blue Angels”.

Rugged 44 mm ceramic cases and titanium casebacks engraved with the squadron’s patch protect the brand’s latest column-wheel chronograph movement, caliber 69380, with a 46-hour power reserve and protected from magnetic fields by a soft-iron case.

Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Edition “Royal Maces”

The “Royal Maces” Edition (Ref. IW389107) was inspired by an exclusive military edition that the IWC originally developed with and for members of the VFA-27 Squadron. Thus, the dial shows the “Maces” patch positioned at 6 o’clock.

In a tribute to the unit’s signature colors, the model features a yellow day-date indication, a yellow-tipped central chronograph second hand, a yellow small seconds hand and the same color strap stitching. These color accents combine with a black dial and a black ceramic case. With pushers and crown in Ceratanium, the caseback is titanium and features an engraving of the squadron’s Super Hornet F / A-18E jet, alongside the official squadron name: “VFA-27”.

Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Edition “Tophatters”

The Pilot Chronograph Edition “Tophatters” (Ref. IW389108) also displays the squad’s signature emblem at 6 o’clock on the black dial and the engraving on the back of the titanium case. The rest of the watch is made of black ceramic.

The chronograph pushers and crown are also Ceratanium – a material developed by IWC to be as lightweight and durable as titanium, while having the hardness and scratch resistance properties of ceramic. And, as a tribute to the squadron’s colors, the day-date indication, the tip of the central chronograph seconds hand, the small seconds hand and the stitching of the black calfskin strap appear in the unit’s characteristic red.

Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Edition “Blue Angels”

The “Blue Angels” Edition (Ref. IW389109) has a bright blue ceramic case, obtained by mixing zirconium oxide with other metallic oxides. This coloration extends to the blue rubber strap with textile inlay.

Similar to the “Royal Maces” model, the day-date indication at 3 o’clock and the small seconds hand stand out for their yellow details. However, instead of a yellow tipped chronograph seconds hand, it appears in full yellow.

Finally, the iconic “Blue Angels” emblem is displayed at 6 o’clock, and the squadron’s signature lettering is engraved on the bottom of the titanium case.
